about me.....and Homing Cottage

I registered as a Childminder in 1991 and I live with my husband Steve.

We moved to Yapton from Chichester in 2006, and set to work creating a welcoming environment for my work as a Registered Childminder.

The layout of Homing Cottage works really well for the children. We have a beautiful playroom, a toilet on the ground floor, a cosy area for naps and two other rooms on the ground floor where babies can sleep peacefully yet be monitored easily.

The garden was one of my top priorities for improvement when we moved in. I wanted it to be both beautiful to look at, child-friendly and at the same time a haven for wildlife, which it is. Gardening is one of my hobbies.

My husband Steve worked for Sussex Ambulance for more than 28 years 'front-line' until he fancied a change. He now works at the Ambulance station in a different role. Steve is often around, and the children particularly enjoy his company at lunchtime. He has been CRB checked. Our 4 adult children all live in Chichester. We have no pets and are non smokers.

I registered as a Childminder in Chichester in 1991 after an 8 week course run by Social Services. Fast forward a few years, and my setting is now inspected & regulated by Ofsted (Office for Standards in Education). In my last 3 inspections by Ofsted I was awarded Outstanding- the last inspection was November 2015 and I was thrilled to bits to gain another Outstanding rating.

My qualifications include a Level 3 Certificate in Childminding Practice. I am an honoury life member of the Chichester & District Childminders Association (I was chair from 2002-2006) and have links with Yapton and Bognor Childminders. I was a member of the West Sussex CCF Childminding Network until the cuts in services closed it down.  I hold a Paediatric First Aid Certificate which I renew every 3 years, training in: Safeguarding & Child Protection, Designated Person for Child Protection, Level 2 Award of Health & Safety, Food Hygiene, Risk Assessment, Fire Safety, The Early Years Foundation Stage, Child development, Enabling Environments, Characteristics of Effective Learning, The 2 Year Progress check, Observation, assessment and next steps, Involving Parents, Autism, Dyspraxia, Positive Behaviour and the Code of Practice- SEND

As you can see I have many years of experience, and I also ensure that I keep up-to-date with all current legislation and Ofsted requirements.
